This lakefront property called for two separate builds a season apart: a flagstone patio and staircase finished around the property's own natural boulders, and — the following fall — a full armour stone wall to protect the shoreline it sits above.

The Patio & Steps

Built Around What Was Already There

Rather than clear the site's natural boulders, the staircase and patio were built around them — large stone treads run between the existing rock, and a big accent boulder sits right at the base of the steps instead of being moved out of the way. The result reads like the landscape was always this way.

The Shoreline

Built To Hold, Not Just To Look Right

The following fall, work moved down to the water. Large armour stone was staged on site and set directly along the shoreline — sized and placed to stay put through ice and seasonal water changes, not just for the first winter.
